Michael Frater

Bio

Michael Frater had one of the best seasons of his career in 2011. On June 30, Michael ran a personal best time of 9.88 seconds at the Athletissima Diamond League meet in Lausanne, Switzerland. That marked the second time last season that Michael had set a new personal best in the 100-meter dash. At the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, he set a new world record as a member of the Jamaican 4x100-meter relay (37.02). Michael also qualified and competed in the open 100-meter dash. The two-time Olympian has his sights set on qualifying for this year’s upcoming Olympics in London where the Jamaican sprinters are sure to lead the way to the medal stand.

!Michael has been one of the most consistent sprinters of the past decade, having ranked top-10 in the world six out of the last seven years. In 2008, he ran the 2nd leg of the Olympic gold medal and world record breaking Jamaican 4x100-meter relay that ran 37.10 seconds. At the 2005 World Championships, Michael won a silver medal in the 100-meter dash.!
!Prior to Michael's professional career, he ran on the US Collegiate circuit for Texas Christian University, where in 2004 he finished a close 2nd at the NCAA Championships to his rival Tyson Gay in the 100-meter dash where both athletes recorded a time of 10.06.

!In Jamaica, Michael is regarded as a living legend in the sport. From his youth competing and winning at the world famous Boys and Girls Championships, through the US Collegiate system, and currently the professional ranks, Michael has achieved the highest levels of success. He is a member of the high profile MVP Track Club based at the University of Technology in Kingston and is coached by Stephen Francis.
